Calcium – Serum calcium is involved in the regulation of neuromuscular and enzyme activity, bone metabolism and blood coagulation. Calcium measurements are useful in the diagnosis of parathyroid disease, some bone disorders and chronic renal disease. A low level of calcium may result in tetany.

Specimen Required
1 mL serum from a serum separator tube (SST) (0.5 mL min). Centrifuge as soon as possible after clot formation. Preferably within 45 minutes after collection. Be sure barrier forms complete separation between serum and cells.
